Project Commencement

In 2017, Boss Polymer Technologies was awarded with the contract to supply thousands of metres of Noise Barrier Gasket for use in the Melbourne Sky Rail project.

Melbourne is in a period of rapid population growth, with experts predicting the population to double to almost 8 million people by 2050. With Melbourne’s ageing infrastructure already under strain, the Victorian Government has begun construction of the Melbourne Sky Rail to help ease congestion on the cities roads.

Melbourne Sky Rail

The Melbourne Sky Rail is an elevated rail line that was constructed along Melbourne's busiest rail corridor. The Sky Rail will remove nine level crossings along the Cranbourne-Pakenham line, easing traffic congestion and allowing more trains to operate. The removal of the level crossing will also see 56 acres of land become available, with plans to turn this space into parkland.

Costing $1.6 billion dollars, construction of the Melbourne Sky Rail began in late 2016. The Sky Rail consists of three section of nine-metre-high elevated track with twenty-metre-high fences. These fences are comprised of a series of acoustic panels with a specialised Noise Barrier Gasket installed between each panel.

Project Completion

Over 36,600 metres of Noise Barrier Gasket in two sizes, was required to complete the project. Boss Polymer Technologies won the contract to supply these gaskets indirectly to the Victorian State Government. Manufactured from EPDM rubber, these Noise Barrier Gaskets are waterproof, noise reducing, ozone and UV resistant.

The project created over 2,000 jobs for Victorians and was completed in late 2018.
